Chumleys Fall BearCruise 2018

Chumleys BearCruisesHop aboard the majestic Ruby Princess and join the party on Chumleys Fall BearCruise Oct 27 – Nov 3, 2018 sailing round-trip from Los Angeles for Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan, and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Most of Mexico’s Baja West Coast was populated with small fishing villages until the 1920s, when tourists from up north started to arrive. Glamorous towns like Acapulco gained international fame in the 1960s when celebrities like Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton and John Wayne made it their seaside escape from the drama of Hollywood.

The term “Mexican Riviera” came into being when the cruise industry discovered the region; scenic, tourist-friendly ports like Mazatlan, Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta provided the backdrop for television’s The Love Boat in the 1970s and 1980s. For many of us, it’s hard to even read this itinerary without hearing Julie the cruise director saying it in our heads!

In addition to the history and beauty of this region, there’s also a lot to do in this part of the world – particularly for active types. Water activities such as snorkeling, paddleboarding, kayaking, fishing and scuba diving abound, and there’s no shortage of beautiful beaches. For those who seek culture, Mazatlan has a historic center that has become a draw for international artists, and Puerto Vallarta’s foodie scene is among the best in Mexico.

Each town we will visit offers a wonderful mix of historic Mexican culture, modern shopping and colorful entertainment… and of course warm sunshine and white sand beaches.

Los Angeles (San Pedro) CA

The City of Angels always hovers between dream and reality. Once a near-forgotten colonial outpost, the pueblo metamorphosed into an agrarian paradise before reinventing itself as a movie colony. Perhaps no other city owes so much to the technological innovations of the 20th century, from the automobile to the airplane. Little wonder that LA is oft described as the “dream machine.” In LA, reinvention is a way of life. Yet this talent for change has created a city with a rich ethnic diversity and a sizzling culture. LA is the source for trends that migrate across the country and then the world. Where else can you enjoy a Thai taco or munch on a kosher burrito? Or travel from downtown’s high rises to the beaches of Malibu, shopping in Beverly Hills along the way?

As we set sail for Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta, you will be hard pressed to not hear Julie, the famed Love Boat Cruise Director announcing the stops in your ear!

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

At one time a part of the Mexican mainland, a massive rupture of the San Andreas Fault sent the waters of the Pacific crashing into the newly formed depression, creating the Sea of Cortez and the Baja Peninsula. Lying at the very tip of Baja, where the Pacific meets the Sea of Cortez, Cabo San Lucas – or “Cabo” – is one of the premier resort destinations in the Western Hemisphere. Swim in the transparent waters, marvel at the wealth of marine life, relax on one of the white-sand beaches or try your hand at some of the finest sport fishing in the world.

Mazatlan, Mexico

Lying just below the Tropic of Cancer, Mazatlan boasts a superb year-round climate. Mazatlan, a name that means “Place of the Deer,” sits on a peninsula at the feet of the rugged Sierra Madre, and the Cerro de Neveria – “Ice Box Hill” – divides the area’s rocky Pacific beaches from the broad, white-sand beaches beloved by visitors. The climate, the beaches, and the world-class sportfishing have turned this commercial fishing port into one of the world’s top resort destinations. While visitors flock to the markets, sunbathe, or marvel at the airborne ballet of the famed Papantla dancers, Mazatlan remains one of Mexico’s major Pacific commerical fishing ports – the city exports over 40 million pounds of shrimp every year.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Strolling, shopping, and sipping tequila along the Malecon boardwalk of Puerto Vallarta is the best way to kick off your vacation. Then hit the cobblestone streets of Old Vallarta to browse the flea market for handmade crafts and warm local smiles. The calm, warm waters of the Bay of Banderas make for excellent diving, or you can just watch artists sculpt spectacular creations in the sand. The cluster of fine art galleries in El Centro are perfect spots to hit on a self-guided art tour. Puerto Vallarta is a resort town on Mexico’s Pacific coast, in Jalisco state. It is known for its beaches, water sports and nightlife scene. Its historic center is home to the ornate Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe church, boutique shops and a range of restaurants and bars. Our visit to Puerta Vallarta this year will be on October 31st – the start of Dia de los Muertos (the Day of the Dead) and it’s fascinating celebrations.

Freedom of the Seas

While we are all aware of the recent devastation in Puerto Rico and St Maarten, Royal Caribbean has already began sailing departures from San Juan, and plans to have both Puerto Rico and St Maarten back on full port-of-call status by the end of this year.  Although it will take years for the people of both islands to fully recover, it is imperative that their tourism-driven economies are up and running as quickly as possible, and we look forward to this absolutely amazing itinerary.

The Stunning Islands of the Southern Caribbean

Departing from San Juan allows us to reach islands usually out of the range of a US-based 7-day departure, and this amazing itinerary brings us to ports of call we have never visited in all of our prior years, including quite a few European-influenced locations. Our first small group Spring cruise to the Caribbean will give us full day visits to six stunning Caribbean islands on a ship that offers more options than you can possibly imagine… but you may just want to grab a spot to relax and watch it all glide by.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

San Juan, Puerto Rico’s capital and largest city, sits on the island’s Atlantic coast. Its widest beach fronts the Isla Verde resort strip, known for its bars, nightclubs and casinos. Cobblestoned Old San Juan features colorful Spanish colonial buildings and 16th-century landmarks including El Morro and La Fortaleza, massive fortresses with sweeping ocean views, as well as the Paseo de la Princesa bayside promenade.

St. Maarten

St. Maarten, part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, is a country on the southern part of a Caribbean island shared with Saint Martin, a French overseas collectivity. Its natural features span lagoons, beaches and salt pans. The capital, Philipsburg, has cobblestone streets and colorful, colonial-style buildings lining its Front Street shopping area.

St. Kitts and Nevis

Saint Kitts and Nevis is a dual-island nation situated between the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea. It’s known for cloud-shrouded mountains and beaches. Many of its former sugar plantations now operates as inns or atmospheric ruins. The larger of the 2 islands, Saint Kitts, is dominated by the dormant Mount Liamuiga volcano, home to a crater lake, green vervet monkeys and a lush rainforest crisscrossed with hiking trails.

Antigua, also known as Waladli or Wadadli by the native population, is an island in the West Indies. It is one of the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean region and the main island of the country of Antigua and Barbuda. The island has warm, steady winds, a complex coastline of safe harbors, and a protective, nearly unbroken wall of coral reef. In 1784 the legendary Admiral Horatio Nelson sailed to Antigua and established Great Britain’s most important Caribbean base. Little did he know that over 200 years later the same unique characteristics that attracted the Royal Navy would transform Antigua and Barbuda into one of the Caribbean’s premier tourist destinations.

St. Lucia

Saint Lucia is an Eastern Caribbean island nation with a pair of dramatically tapered mountains, the Pitons, on its west coast. Its coast is home to volcanic beaches, reef-diving sites, luxury resorts and fishing villages. Trails in the interior rainforest lead to waterfalls like the 15m-high Toraille, which pours over a cliff into a garden.

Bear Your SoulBreak the cold and lonely spell of winter with four amazing days of connection, play, and discovery with men just like you who are looking for the perfect thaw. Bear Your Soul: Winter Hibernation brings together men of all shapes, colors, sizes, and abilities, in order to build and foster a stronger bear community. Bear Your Soul: Winter Hibernation offers workshops and discussions that allow men to connect more deeply with themselves and one another. Our unique Loving Our Bear Bodies workshop, for example, leads participants through a shared yet personal journey of discovering the beauty in diverse shapes, colors and sizes of “bear bodies”, in the healing embrace of your brothers.

Our goals are to foster a sense of radical acceptance, help one another to let go of shame, and become comfortable with our full and true selves. We honor the body, mind and spirit of all of our brothers. We value heart centered interaction, authenticity, respect for ourselves and others, healthy sex positivity and inclusion.

January 12th to 15th in Greenwich, New York, a circle of men who are ready to break out of winter’s frost is forming by the warm fire. And there is a place just for you. We’ve created four days that let you CONNECT, PLAY, and DISCOVER:
